Abstract

A study of the cost implications of producing and releasing new agricultural radio and television programmes was carried out using the farm broadcast activities of the National Agricultural Extension and Research Liaison Services ( NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria as a case study. The institute produced and released 481 agricultural radio and 182 television programmesin 1995. The average cost of producing and releasing new programmes were N34, 202.10 for radio and N115,321.57 for television programmes. Commercialization of radio and television broadcasts played a significant role in high cost of farm broadcasts. The paper concludes with suggestions on various ways of sustaining farm broadcasts.
